The Lead: The Emerson softball team were upended by WPI in a doubleheader sweep to the Engineers on Saturday afternoon. In game one, Emerson were topped, 4-1. Then to close the day, the Lions were upended by the Engineers, 14-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three innings were in the books before the scoreless tie was broken by WPI in their half of the fourth. After Diaz got herself on second with a double, she came around for the Engineers' first run on Nagy's single to left.
- Within the fifth and sixth frames, Emerson saw their deficit grow to 4-0 behind a sacrifice fly followed by an RBI single from Alicia Salvalzo and Ambrosino's RBI two-bagger.
- Emerson made their way onto the board thanks to Zenga's double to the left field fence that drove in Rosenberger and moved the score to 4-1.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Emerson tried to get a comeback going, but Togneri retired the Lions in order on strikes as the Purple & White fell to the Engineers, 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- WPI struck in the top of the first when Ambrosino drove a sacrifice fly into right to plate Russell for the 1-0 lead. Emerson answered in the bottom half of the first when Overton went yard to lock the game at 1-all.
- The Engineers broke the game open in the second inning when they pushed across seven runs with the help of three singles and a solo home run from Ambrosino to move the score to 8-1.
- Emerson used the home half of the third to chip away at WPI's lead and brought home three runs to move the score to 9-4 after Killough's double drove in both Beaulieu and sophomore Mackenzie Rice.
- WPI's fourth through six frames saw them tack on six more runs to take their lead into double-figures at 14-4.
- Zannotti reached on a fielder's choice to put a runner on for Emerson in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pritchard kept the runner at second as she fanned the final Lions' batter of the inning as the hosts fell to WPI in game two, 14-4.
