The Lead: The Emerson softball team found themselves on the other end of a NEWMAC twin-bill sweep at the hands of Babson on Friday night. The Lions fell to the Beavers, 7-1, in game one. In game two, the Purple & Gold pulled within one behind a two-run sixth, but fell 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Babson crossed home for the game's first run in the top half of the first when Joslin batted an infield RBI single off the pitcher to bring in Sara Moore for the 1-0 lead.
- The Beavers came away with a pair of scores in its half of the fourth to put the Lions in a 3-0 deficit. The first Babson run in the frame came when Aguilar roped an RBI double into the left center gap. In the next at-bat, Joslin batted in Aguliar when she sent an RBI single up the middle.
- A single from Moore and Labouliere's two-bagger RBI extended Babson's advantage to 6-0 after five innings.
- Natoli took Pratt deep in the visitor's half of the seventh as she barreled a solo homer over the left field fence to give Babson the 7-0 lead.
- Zannotti snapped O'Reilly's no hitter in the home portion of the seventh and safely reached on an infield single to the shortstop. Two at-bats later and no outs, Gomez smacked an RBI single into the right center gap to plate Zannotti for Emerson's first run and the score now at 7-1.
- With runners still on first and third with one out, O'Reilly was able to retire the final two Emerson batters on strikes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Moore advanced to third on a wild pitch. Agilar sent an RBI single up the middle out pto bring her in as Babson went up 1-0 in the top of the first.
- In the top of the third, Babson used two hits and an Emerson defensive miscue to take the 2-0 lead. With a runner on third and two outs, Moore singled up the middle to bring in Molly Hennessy.
- Babson added one more run to its lead in its half of the fourth when Moore smacked an RBI single up the middle to bring in Molly Hennessy to put the Beavers on top, 3-0.
- Emerson had a chance to get a run on the board in the fifth after Gomez drew the two-out walk and freshman Carly Rosenberg batted a single into right center. Babson erased Emerson's threat as MacDonald got Pratt to ground out to second to end the inning.
- Gomez held Babson scoreless over the next two innings, which allowed the Emerson bats to get to work in the home half of the sixth and plated two runs to pull within one at 3-2.
- Lacey barrled an RBI two-bagger into the right center gap to bring in sophomore Makenzie Killough for Emerson's first run. Zannotti then put an RBI single into center that crossed in freshman Mackenzie Rice.
- In Babson's seventh, they used Labouliere's sacrifice fly into right to plate Moore to move the score to 4-2.
- Emerson was unable to forge a comeback in their half of the seventh as O'Reilly retired the side on a pop up, fly out and grounder to first.
UP NEXT
- Emerson has a quick turnaround tomorrow, Saturday, April 16th when they head out to Worcester to take on WPI in a NEWMAC twin-bill at 12 & 2 p.m.
