Women's Tennis Takes Split Against Cornell & Haverford

The Lead: Three victories in the doubles matches and a complete sweep of the singles matches powered the Emerson women's tennis team to the 9-0 win over Cornell, their second straight win of the spring season on Monday morning. In the nightcap against Haverford, Emerson fell to the Fords, 6-0, to wrap the first day of spring break action.

MATCH NOTES 

  • Emerson swept all three double matches and collected wins in all singles matches to upend Cornell, 9-0. 


HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Emerson picked up victories in all three doubles matches to take the 3-0 lead. 
    • No. 1: Wilson and Nikolishin topped Emmaline Fievet and Amanda Dragon, 8-2
    • No. 2: Steward and Woodbury teamed up to edge out Ashley Mink and Makayla Johnson, 8-4
    • No. 3: Mirisola and McGovern won by default.
  • The Lions continued to dominate in the singles matches and swept all six matches to snag the 9-0 victory. 
    • No. 1: Nikolishin captured the opening singles win over Fievet: 6-1, 6-2
    • No. 2: Steward locked up a No. 2 singles win and topped Johnson: 6-3, 6-1
    • No. 3: Mirisola held on to snag the third Lions point in a No. 3 win over Mink: 6-4, 6-3
    • No. 4: In the fourth singles spot, Oglensky battled for the victory over Dragon: 7-6 (7-4 tiebreak), 6-4
    • No. 5: Emerson picked up its fifth point in the No. 5 singles match as McGovern topped Seu: 6-0, 6-1
    • No. 6: Wilson won by default in the No. 6 spot to lock Emerson's victory. 


MATCH TWO

Haverford 6, Emerson 0

MATCH NOTES 

  • In the nightcap against Haverford, Emerson fell to the Fords, 6-0, for their first setback of the spring season. 


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson slipped in all three doubles matches to quickly trail Haverford, 3-0. 
    • No. 1: Wilson and Nikolishin were defeated by Rachael Fitzgerald and Anne Tobin, 8-3.
    • No. 2: Woodbury and Steward fell to Emily Oh and Liv Pindzola, 8-1.
    • No. 3: In the final doubles match, Mirisola and McGovern fell to Annie Barrett and Summer Williams, 8-2. 
  • Emerson played to decision in three singles matches and took the 6-0 setback to the Fords. 
    • No. 1: Wilson was topped by Mimi Lavin, 6-4 (unfinished)
    • No. 2: Nikolishin did not finish her set against Abbey Russano, 6-5. 
    • No. 3: Woodbury fell to Ellie Esterowitz, 6-1 & 8-6.
    • No. 4: In the fourth singles match, Steward fell to Barrett, 0-6 & 3-6.
    • No. 5: Mirisola was defeated by Summer Williams, 1-6 & 1-6.
    • No. 6: Sophia Oglensky did not finish her game against Pindzola, 1-6 & 4-3.
