#52 Smith Defeats Women's Tennis in Season Finale

Wang and Sauber double winners for Bears

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (May 1, 2026) – Smith College, ranked No. 52 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III national rankings, closed out the regular season with a 7-0 victory over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis match at the Smith Outdoor Tennis Courts.

Highlights

  • Senior Marielle Sauber and first year Emily Wang were both double winners to lead Smith to the win.
  • Sophomores Tabitha Bastress and Isabel Benitez-Barron, as well as first years Heidi Cambron and Ava Emrich each posted singles wins for the Bears.
  • Juniors Amaya Briones and Gianna Di-Reumante teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles for Emerson.

How It Happened

  • Smith won two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point as Wang and first year Olivia Chin provided the point clinching victory with a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles after Sauber and senior Dayana Caluna didn't drop a game in their win at No. 2.
  • Cambron posted Smith's first singles point with her 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Briones.
  • Emrich followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against Emerson first year Teah Login to pull the Bears within a point of the match win.
  • Wang capped her two wins on the afternoon by winning the match deciding point with her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against sophomore Alisa Pimenova.
  • Sauber finished her second win of the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win against sophomore Abigail Miner at No. 3 singles.

Emerson (6-11, 1-7 NEWMAC) wraps up its season with a 6-11 record overall, including 1-7 in NEWMAC play. Smith (9-8, 5-3 NEWMAC) has advanced to the semifinal round of the NEWMAC Tournament scheduled for this weekend.
