PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 17, 2026) – Emerson College opened its fall schedule with a 7-0 triumph over Rhode Island College in a non-conference women's tennis matchup at RIC Tennis Center this afternoon.
Highlights
- First year Elora Hooge was a double winner in her collegiate debut to lead Emerson to its first season-opening win since the 2022-23 season.
- Sophomore Teah Login was also a double winner for the Lions, while seniors Amaya Briones and Gianna Di-Reumante as well as first years Bianca Bush and Lily Roman each contributed points with singles wins for the Lions.
- Junior Arianna DeThomas and sophomore Addison Hadlock combined for a win in doubles play for Rhode Island College.
How It Happened
- Junior Abigail Miner and first year Rachael Pantaleoni got Emerson started with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
- After DeThomas and Hadlock knotted the doubles matches at one apiece for RIC, Hooge and Login clinched the doubles point for Emerson with a 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles.
- Emerson swept the six singles matches to complete the 7-0 win, starting with Bush posting a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles over Hadlock in her collegiate debut.
- Briones followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over sophomore Faith Owren.
- Login earned the match clinching point for Emerson with her 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles against DeThomas.
- Hooge capped her two-win afternoon with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles against RIC junior Haylie Peacock.
- Di-Reumante and Roman closed out the sweep of the six singles matches by battling their way to wins at No. 6 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Di-Reumante won her third set super tiebreaker 10-7 over senior Ivy Par, while Roman took a straight sets win against junior Emilia Houwers with both sets decided by tiebreakers.

"I'm really thrilled with our effort today," said Emerson head coach Burke Paxton. "Credit to RIC, they are a great team that rarely loses and fights super hard. This is only their second regular season loss in two years and they played like it. For us to overcome some first match nerves, especially with so many players playing in their first collegiate match, a sweep is amazing. I am so proud of the energy, fight, and effort the entire team brought today. I hope we can continue building off of this."
