The Lead: Senior Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.) paced the Emerson women's basketball team with 17 points as the Lions were held off by Springfield in a 52-43 setback on Saturday afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Boyle notched a Lions'-best 17 points, while junior Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, Penn.) pulled down a team high eight boards.
- Gracie Restituyo put up a double-double of 12 points and 22 rebounds followed Alex Goslin's 12 points to go along with one assist and one rebound.
- Emily Jacques and Chelsea McAllister rounded out Springfield's top scorers with 10 points apiece while Jacques collected eight boards and McAllister tallied four rebounds and a steal.
- Emerson went 15-of-52 (28.8%) and Springfield knocked down 18-of-50 (36.0%) as the Pride outdid the Lions on the glass (48-32) and within the paint (30-24).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McAllister put up the first four Springfield points on a pair of contested shots within the paint to help the hosts grab an early 8-2 lead over Emerson with 3:05 left in the opening frame.
- In the remaining three minutes of the quarter, Boyle put up the last remaining basket to cut the lead in half at 8-4.
- After the second half saw little scoring, Springfield bounced back with 16 points in the second stanza behind Goslin's six points.
- Junior Kate Foultz (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) converted a three-point play to put Emerson back within before a steal and two consecutive baskets by Goslin kickstarted a 12-2 Pride streak to give the hosts an 11 points lead.
- Emerson found themselves in the 11 point hole with 5:29 still to play in the half after Jacques sank a layup.
- The Lions trailed the Pride 31-17 a mere 2:30 minutes into the third quarter on a three-point play by Jacques, but were able to gain back some ground entering the fourth down 47-31.
- Down 16 in the fourth, a free throw from Boyle at the 2:45 mark was able to narrow Springfield's lead to 11, but was not enough as the Lions were downed 52-43.
