The Lead: Junior Gavin Faucette (Oakland, Calif.) notched his first goal of the season in the Emerson men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest to Emmanuel (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Faucette's first half goal counted as his first of 2018 and had three shots on goal.
- Sophomore goalkeeper David Kemp (London, England) took the loss on an afternoon where he surrendered two goals with four stops.
- Samuel Burghardt and Kyle King recorded each of Emmanuel's goals with Travis Cole and Morgan Mercier credited with the assists.
- Emmanuel (Mass.) keeper Jonathon Ferrarini picked up the win for the Saints and made four saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson gained the game's first scoring opportunity 15 minutes into the opening half when junior Paul Bou Aziz (Nice, France) booted a shot from 25 yards out that just bounced out off the crossbar.
- In the 26th minute of the frame, Emmanuel struck for the first goal after Cole caught the back line off guard and sent a long through ball to Burghardt, who needed two touches to scoot the ball past Kemp.
- The Lions wasted little time an the offensive attack and evened the score at 1-all one minute later on a penalty kick conversion by Faucette.
- King booted in the game winner with 3:39 on the clock in the first half and took a crossed pass from Mercier into the back of the net to push the hosts ahead, 2-1.
- Emmanuel nearly took the 3-1 lead over Emerson only to have the goal taken back due to a late foul on the play.
- Faucette broke free on the right side for a small breakaway with six minutes left in regulation, yet Ferrarini dove to his right to stop the equalizer from going into the net.
