CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (October 31, 2026) – Emerson College clinched a spot in next week's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament with a win it had to have at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ranked No. 6 in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III, Region II, rankings at Roberts Field this evening.

Emerson (9-5-4, 2-3-2 NEWMAC) earns a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the third-straight year and fourth time overall and will be seeded No. 5 for the tournament. The Lions will visit No. 4 Coast Guard Academy (8-6-3, 3-3-2 NEWMAC) for a first round matchup on Tuesday at 6 p.m. MIT (8-5-4, 4-2-2 NEWMAC) will be the tournament's No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 WPI in a first round matchup on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Junior Jack Wasserman netted the matchwinner for Emerson for the second-straight match in a week the Lions needed to win each of its remaining NEWMAC matches to earn a postseason bid. Emerson also got goals from sophomore Nick Mirogiannis and first year Cade Lagerwey.

Sophomore Asa Roberts did the rest in goal for Emerson with five saves. Seniors Paolo Mangiafico and Hernando Jose Ardila split the goalkeeping duties for MIT with Mangiafico making three saves while conceding twice in the first half, before Ardila had three stops with a goal against in the second half.

Wasserman and Lagerwey struck for all the goals Emerson would lead just 2:10 apart in the 21st and 23rd minutes. MIT pulled one back before the intermission with a penalty kick from junior Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Connecticut/Avon Old Farms School) in the 29th minute. Mirogiannis restored the Lions two goal cushion just 55-seconds into the second half and then Roberts made it stand with four of his five saves in the final 45-minutes.
