HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson took advantage of a slow start from Suffolk and snagged an early 9-6 lead at the midway point of the first stanza.
  • The Lions saw its lead disappeared as the Rams embarked on a quick 7-0 spurt to put them on top by three (13-10) as Bourikas converted both her free throws to push the hosts ahead 15-13 after 10 minutes.
  • Foultz buried a triple from downtown that allowed the visitors to take the 20-19 lead in the early minutes of the second quarter.
  • Once again, Emerson had its lead vanish as Shannon Smith edged Suffolk in front once again on a pair from the charity line and later bumped its advantage to six on back-to-back three's from DiCecco.
  • The Lions pieced together a late 5-2 streak to cut the deficit down to three (31-28) at the conclusion of the first half.
  • Suffolk jumped out the gate to start off the third and built an eight point lead (38-30), yet Emerson was able to answer with seven unanswered points to make it a one-point contest (38-37) with 4:35 to play in the third.
  • A bucket from Hackett canned a shot from the perimeter before both Suffolk and Emerson traded off baskets.
  • DiCecco and Hackett tipped in consecutive hoops to put the score at 50-43 in Suffolk's favor, but junior Natalie Busch (Weybridge, England) had her triple fall through and made the game interesting at 50-46 with 1:07 to go.
  • Thanks to hoops from Gabriella Decomo and DiCecco, Suffolk extended its lead to 55-46 in the opening portions of the fourth, but once again saw Emerson trim the score back to four (55-51) at the 6:38 mark.
  • The hosts continued to hold the advantage over the Lions, but with 1:07 in regulation, the visitors stuck around and commanded the three-point line with the score now within a pair (69-67).
  • Suffolk regained possession of the ball after Emerson's failed fast break attempt with 24.4 ticks left and sent the Rams to the line with Bourikas canning both shots to give the hosts the 71-67 edge.
  • Emerson sent up its final attempt to make it a one point game with a three-point attempt, but the shot was off the mark as Suffolk stepped to the charity line and sealed the 74-67 win.
