Women's Tennis Season Preview

Under the Leadership of Coaches Dan Munsey and Paola Cigui, Emerson Women's Tennis looks forward to the 2016-17 Season.

We sat down with Coach Munsey for a few words,

First match vs. MIT:  "Going up against the defending NEWMAC champions and a top 20 team in the country for our first match was not an easy task, but I thought our team did a great job of competing hard and showed a lot of promising signs for the overall direction that our program is heading.  5 of our 6 singles players we competing in their first colligate match but I thought we did a pretty good job handling the nerves.

In her college debut, Freshman Alisha Parikh showed a lot of fight in her match and was almost able to pull out her 2nd set against an NCAA All-American.  Despite the loss, I could not be more encouraged to see how far this group has come in such a short period of time and it's pretty clear that the future is very bright for our women's tennis team."

Looking forward to the rest of the season Coach Munsey said that,

"I couldn't be more excited to welcome so many new faces to our program and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what our women can accomplish this year.  With such a large group of first year players there is no doubt that this is going to be a process, but the talent and dedication that this group has shown thus far makes me more encouraged than ever that we are going to accomplish great things not only this season, but also well into the future.

Our ultimate goal for this first year together is to win the programs first conference match since joining the NEWMAC and ultimately compete for a playoff spot which is awarded to the top 6 teams in the conference.

We are setting the bar high considering where we were as a program just a year ago, but the players keep raising the coaching staff's expectation with not only the talent they have shown in practice, but the dedication, drive and commitment they have displayed to start the year.  I'm already very proud of how this group has come together and can't wait to see what they can accomplish together."

The Lions return to action on Sat, Sept 10th, when they face NEWMAC rival Mount Holyoke. Match set for 12:00pm.
