Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Goals from junior Mariah Harvey-Brown (Mill Valley, Calif.), junior Alex Scheman (New York, N.Y.) and junior Chandler Quinn (North Attleboro, Mass.) powered Tufts to a 3-0 non-conference victory over the Emerson women's soccer squad on Tuesday afternoon at Kraft Field. The contest served as Tufts' season opener.
With the win, Tufts improves to 1-0 while Emerson falls to 1-2.
14 minutes into the opening half was all it took for Tufts to get on the board first. Senior Robin Estus (Houston, Texas) set up Harvey-Brown and buried the Jumbos first net of the game past Emerson senior goalie Melanie Escobar (Torrington, Conn.) (13:09). Seven minutes later, the Jumbos extended the lead to two as senior Jess Capone (Schenectady, N.Y.) registered a helper on Scheman's goal at 20:10. Despite the 2-0 deficit, the Lions held the 9-8 shot advantage over the Jumbos through the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Emerson was held to just one shot while Tufts powered out 13 shots. With help from sophomore Taylor Koscho (Hudson, Ohio), Quintin tallied the third Jumbos' goal (76:37) and locked up the 3-0 shutout victory.
Sophomore Rachel Lord (Burlington, Conn.) led the Purple & Yellow with four shots on goal. Escobar played 80:46 between the pipes and made 10 saves before freshman Hannah Hodge (Gainesville, Ga.) finished out the game.
Harvey-Brown, Quinn and Scheman each tallied goals for Tufts. Sophomore Emily Bowers (Needham, Mass.) made seven saves through 90 minutes between the pipes.
Emerson returns to the field on Saturday as they host Me.-Farmington for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
