Men's Soccer Tagged With 3-0 Loss To Regis (Mass.)

Box Score

WESTON, Mass. - Two goals from the foot of sophomore Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) paced Regis (Mass.) past the Emerson men's soccer team, 3-0, in a non-conference shutout at Regis Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Regis improves to 6-4 through the first 10 games, while Emerson slips down to 2-6.

Triana tallied the Pride's first goal in the 17th minute of the first half. Triana cut past a Lions defender and found a pass from freshman Grayson Owens (Marshfield, Mass.) and scored the first goal on a breakaway. Four and a half minutes later, Triana connected for his second goal on a feed from senior Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.) and sent it over the reach of Emerson sophomore keeper Malachi McDonald (Rockville, Md.) to put Regis on top 2-0.

Sindoni, who registered an assist on Triana's second goal, added a cushion goal for Regis in the 66th minute. Sophomore Litchie Barbosa (Boston, Mass.) fed a pass to Sindoni at the top of the box and deposited the ball into the lower righthand corner of the goal to increase the Pride lead to 3-0.

Senior keeper Manny Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) earned the win for Regis and made three saves in 67 minutes between the pipes. Freshman Gabriel Montealegre (Managua, Nicaragua) and sophomore Andrew Barros (Malden, Mass.) each had one save apiece in relief for the Pride. McDonald was tagged with the loss and made two saves with junior Connor Dane (Quincy, Mass.) coming in for relief and also made two saves.

Both Emerson and Regis will return to the field on Saturday afternoon. The Lions will continue NEWMAC action at home against WPI at 1:00 p.m., while Regis will remain at home for a NECC tilt versus Newbury at 1:00 p.m.
