New Haven, Conn. – Men's Volleyball earned their second conference win of the year on the road against the hosting Albertus Magnus College Falcons. The Lions swept 3-0, with the sets ending 25-11, 25-20, and 25-19. Emerson rises to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC. The Falcons fall to 5-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The balanced Emerson attack saw five different players record six or more kills in the shutout win. Nick Rusk lead the team with 8 kills and added 4 digs and 3 block assists. While freshman middle blocker Win Kittivatcharapong netted 7 kills and added 4 block assists. Senior setter Brendan McGonigle did a good job of distributing the ball for the Lions, recording a match-high 34 assists. Rounding out the offence was Ben Hillman, Jackson Wiley, and Stig Regan with 6 kills each.
Senior outside hitter Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) paced the attack for the hosts with a 11 kills and 10 digs. Tharau registered a team-high .267 attack percentage to go along with one service ace. Junior middle hitter Josh Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) added two kills, three block solos, one block assist and five digs, while senior outside hitter Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) contributed six kills and nine digs for AMC. In the middle, Falcon freshman setter Jeremy Ortiz (Bridgeport, Conn.) dished out 19 assists to go along with eight digs and two service aces.
The Lions return to action on March 15th when they travel to Mount Ida for another conference matchup. Opening serve slated for 6:00pm.
