BOSTON, Mass - It was a cool and clear night at Rotch Field as the Emerson Lions faced the Lesley Lynx for the Charles River Cup. The Lions would take the night and the cup with a final score of 2-0. With the win their record rises to 7-0-1 overall while Lesley falls to 3-5.
The first half was relatively quiet with only a handful of shots on both sides and very few fouls. Both teams substituted at will trying to find the right matchups, but the half would end scoreless.
The Lions came out firing in the second half as Paige Haley fired a shot that pulled the Lesley keeper out of position, allowing Tayllar Righini to score the first goal, 1-0 Lions. Several minutes later the Lions scored again, this time off the foot of Alyssa Giannone who floated one over the goalies fingers, assisted by Alexandra Dezenzo. This secured Emerson the victory as the match ended 2-0.
In goal for Lesley was Jackie Berard who made 7 saves on 9 shots while playing the full 90. Melanie Escobar was between the posts for the Lions making 2 saves on the night.
Next up Emerson faces Mount Holyoke on Saturday, 9/26 at 12:00pm for the annual homecoming game at Rotch Field.
