In a show of talent and spunk, the Lady Lions defeated the Simmons Sharks. Final Score (71-52)
Emerson Women's Basketball earned the win against Simmons College this Thursday night. The non-conference win advances the Lions overall record to 10-8 keeping them 4-5 in the NEWMAC while the Sharks slide 4-12 on the season and 0-3 for conference play.
The Lady Lions brought a noticeable energy to the first half working together to pull out the win. Junior Kelsey Johnson lit up the boards in first half of the game dropping in back to back layups and going one-hundred percent on free throws. Johnson contributed 9 points on the half and 11 points total, followed closely by freshman Sierra Ducey who threw in 6 points. Highest scorer for Simmons, Jennifer Janiak, added 6 points for the Sharks. With only one second remaining in the half, sophomore Emily Cameron fired up a half court shot that banked in right at the buzzer leaving the score 30-19 at halftime.
In the second half the Lady Lions kept working while the Sharks struggled to keep up. Freshman Eastin Ashby was a standout player grabbing 3 steals while knocking down 11 points for Emerson. In sync with Ashby, freshman Lauren Madigan took it to the hoop adding 6 points to the mix along with senior Marissa Nobile who shot in 6 points. For Simmons, freshman Gracie Rolf scored 9 points with an additional 7 points scored by Kimberlee Hixon. After a defensive push to stop the shots, the Lions managed to shut down the Sharks and secured the win with a final score of 71-52.
The Lady Lions next game will be home against Smith College on Saturday (1/31) at 1:00pm.
