WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Tennis Team opened their 2014 season Saturday as they fell 9-0 to the #13 MIT Engineers. The match was the opener for both teams as MIT starts off 1-0 and Emerson 0-1.
In doubles action the Lions scrapped hard, but the Engineers prevailed, taking 8-0 wins in all three spots with Krystal Lai and Rena Liu finishing first in the three spot over Meredith Weber and Victoria Kanaris. The number one team of Elysa Kohrs and Victoria Tam pulled in next, defeating Jana Winfield and Theresa Nelson before Marlee Galper and Marilia Rosario fell to Sonya Das and Michelle Dutt to close out the doubles sweep.
Singles action saw MIT come out swinging as well, though EC pushed them on some rallies, but fell shy to the Engineers who closed out 6-0, 6-0 wins on all six courts. Cindy Liu in the four spot finished first over Alexandra Wysota before Dora Tzeng clinched the match in the six spot over Marlee Galper.
The number one spot of EC's Jana Winfield and MIT's Elysa Kohrs wrapped up next followed up by Jae Hyun Kim over Tara Windsor. Theresa Nelson pushed hard in the two spot for Emerson, but fell to Sonya Das while Wendi Kong closed out the match with a win over Marilia Rosario.
Next up the Lions travel to Roger Williams thus Thursday for a 4 p.m. match in Bristol, R.I.
