Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Katerina Salgado's six kills led the Lions on the day, but the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team couldn't stop the Springfield Pride, falling 25-19, 25-17 and 25-8. The Lions are now 9-7 on the year and 2-2 in conference play as Springfield moves to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the NEWMAC.
Set one was a battle as the squads forced nine tie scores and two lead changes with both setters doing work as Elaine Nichols put up ten assists and SC's Marnae Mawdsley put up 15. Salgado led EC with four kills and a .333 average, but the Pride swung .306 as a team with two blocks as they took a 25-19 win.
The second set saw the Emerson defense step up for two blocks with Annie Hall leading the way with a solo and an assist while EC compiled ten digs, six by Sam Harton alone. The set saw six tie scores and four lead changes, but in the end SC's Kelsey McGayhey's five kills couldn't be contained as they took a 25-17 win.
The final set was all Springfield though as they blasted a .480 team attack average with four players all hitting over .300 in the set for 14 kills. The Lions couldn't find their rhythm on offense though as they fell 25-8 to wrap the match.
The Lions return home this week as they set to host NEWMAC opponent Smith on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym in Boston, Mass.
