SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 11, 2025) – Third-seeded Springfield College hit .333 over the full match and recorded nine blocks on its way to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-13) triumph over sixth-seeded Emerson College in quarterfinal round action of the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Tournament at Blake Arena tonight.
Springfield (23-6, 6-5 NEWMAC) advances to this weekend's NEWMAC Championship round that will be hosted by top-seeded and nationally ranked MIT on Saturday and Sunday. The Pride will face second-seeded Babson College (21-6, 10-1 NEWMAC) in a NEWMAC semifinal in Cambridge on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Beavers advanced with a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke College in their NEWMAC quarterfinal tonight. Emerson sees its season come to a close with a 14-15 record overall, including 6-5 in NEWMAC play to qualify for the Conference tournament for the sixth-straight season.
Junior setter Tori Colosimo engineered a balanced Springfield attack that hit .333 as a team with just 11 hitting errors by distributing 31 assists across seven hitters on the night, adding 12 digs, two service aces and two block assists.
Senior Emily Keaveney posted a match-high ten kills with just one error to hit .529 with seven digs and three aces, while junior Jodi Saelua added nine kills without an error to hit .562 with six block assists. First-year Aubrey Hughes chipped in with eight kills (.389) and three blocks.
Sophomore Chloe Hokenson led the Emerson attack with nine kills, six assists, seven digs and two blocks. Sophomore Sophia Schiappa totaled 12 assists, four digs and a service ace, while classmate Sami Kim chipped in with ten digs and two aces.
The opening set was tight through a 15-15 deadlock when Springfield took advantage of a series of Emerson errors to gain a cushion before closing out the set with a 10-3 run led by a pair of Hughes kills and a Colosimo ace to seal the set. The second set was even closer with ten ties and six lead changes before the Pride scored the final four points of the frame, including a James ace for set point, to put the hosts in charge by two sets.
Springfield put the match away from there, running out to leads of 7-3 and 12-4 and did not look back. Keaveney delivered six of her kills in the set on just seven total attacks and no errors (.857), while Colosimo dished out 13 assists for the Pride.
