NORTON, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Tennis Team was unable to hold off the Wheaton Lyons Tuesday afternoon as they fell 9-0. Emerson is now 0-5 on the year and 0-4 in conference play as Wheaton moves to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in NEWMAC action.
Wheaton jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles action sweeping by the one and two positions in 8-0 fashion to take the lead.
The Lyons came out strong on Emerson in singles as well as they took the one and two positions with 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. Rookies Sarah Brennan-Athas and Eastin Ashby scrapped hard though in the third and fourth positions. Brennan-Athas fell to Kathryn Burleson 6-1, 6-0 though while Eastin Ashby fell 6-0, 6-1 to Arielle Klopsis to close out the match.
The Lions return to action this Saturday as they host Clark in NEWMAC action at 1 p.m.
