SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The 2014 season continued on for the Emerson Women's Tennis Team Saturday afternoon, as they fell in a tough 9-0 loss to Springfield College. The Lions are now 0-4 on the year and 0-3 in the NEWMAC while Springfield moves to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
EC opened up the day with doubles action that saw the Pride jump out to take 8-0 wins in the second and third positions. Jana Winfield and Theresa Nelson scrapped in the first position against SC's Rachel London and Stephanie Foster, but ultimately fell 8-1 to give Springfield a 3-0 lead headed into singles.
The Pride came out strong in singles as well though as they took 6-0, 6-0 wins in the first, third and fourth position to clinch the win. Nora Gonzalez and Ana Alfaro put up a fight in the second and sixth positions, before both succumbed to 6-1, 6-0 losses. Rounding out the day for the Lions was Sarah Brenman-Athas who was able to take a couple points, but fell 6-1, 6-1 to Springfield's Ariana Shemms.
The Lions continue NEWMAC action this Tuesday as they travel to Wheaton for a match versus the Lyons at 4 p.m. in Norton, Mass.
