Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A gritty first half effort by the Lions couldn't be sustained Tuesday night as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell 5-0 to the visiting Wentworth Leopards. With the loss the Lions are now 0-2 on the year as Wentworth improves to 2-0.
The first half saw the Leopards come out hard with nine shots to EC's three, but the Lion D kept pace with WIT as Allie Altman put up five saves in the half to keep Emerson in the hunt. The stalemate was broken in the 32nd minute of action though as a save by Altman resulted in a rebound that Tori Armishaw deposited into the middle of the net to make it 1-0 headed into the half.
The Lions held the line for nearly the first 10 minutes of action in the second, though WIT upped the volume in the half, blasting 11 shots at Emerson. WIT's Michelle Murphy added to the score with a blast from 15 yards out that found the top left corner.
From there the Leopards took control as two balls down the middle saw Valeria Zapata and Olivia Moore drop two more in, both assisted by Emily Richard. A foul in the box led to a penalty kick as well for WIT that Amanda Weinberger put away to pull it to the 5-0 final.
Next up the Lions will gear up to host Gordon this Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
