Team Effort And Romanos Pull Men's Soccer To A 1-1 Double OT Tie With Daniel Webster

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. - A phenomenal team surge that saw Elias Romanos score his first collegiate goal combined with a nine save game from Carter Bowers saw the Emerson Men's Soccer Team open their 2014 campaign with a double overtime tie against the visiting Daniel Webster Eagles. Both the Eagles and the Lions open up their seasons with a 0-0-1 record with the tie.

The first half showcased a neck-and-neck squad on both sides as DWC put up seven shots to Emerson's six with EC making the Eagles work for it more with four saves in the half alone. The Eagles stepped up in the 13th minute of action though as a long ball set up Aaron Esparza who was able to pocket one in the top right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the half.

EC settled down into their offense to start going at the Eagles full throttle in the second half as they matched DWC with seven shots. Sophomore Elias Romanos was a game changer for Emerson though as Ryan Carino set up a perfect ball to the left of the box that Romanos needed no time in one-touching to the top right of the goal to make it 1-1. Carter Bowers stepped up to do work in the half as well, putting up four of his nine saves in the period alone to send EC into OT tied 1-1.

The game got more chippy in overtime as both squads went full out with the first OT ending in nearly similar shots and saves for both sides. DWC pushed in the second OT with six shots to EC's two as Bowers put up two saves to grind out the 1-1 double overtime tie.

Next up the Lions will travel to Regis College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match up against the Pride in Weston, Mass.
