Box Score BOSTON, Mass.- Freshman guard Emily Cameron's career-high 23 points weren't enough as the Emerson College Lions were defeated 67-48 by the visiting Springfield College Pride. With the loss, EC falls to 7-12 overall and 3-11 in the NEWMAC. Springfield moves to 11-9 and 7-8 in conference play.
The first half saw the Lions pounce out to a 7-1 advantage before Springfield took the lead with 11:25 to play and never looked back. The Pride were up by as much as 17 as they went on a 14-0 run for almost four minutes until Emily Cameron and her five three pointers helped bring the Lions back to head into the locker room down 31-20.
Cameron led the Lions with 15 points as she went 5-for-9 from beyond the arc in the half. EC connected on just 7 of 26 shots from the floor, but made 45.5% from three. The Lions turned the ball over 15 times to Springfield's eight.
Lexi Windwer and Ava Adamopoulos led the Pride with six points apiece in the half while teammate Emily Gins chipped in four and pulled down ten rebounds. Springfield shot 41.4% in field goals and went 7 for 10 at the free throw line.
The second half saw more action as both team shot better and put up more points. Elizabeth Horan had nine points as Emily Cameron stayed hot connecting on two more three pointers to bring her total to seven. Cameron wears #44, the same number as former Emerson 3-point specialist Olivia DiNucci ('12). The Lions converted 10 of 21 from long distance in the game.
Ava Adamopoulos came alive in the second half to pocket a double-double as she shot 83% from the floor and dropped 13 points to go with 10 rebounds. Springfield stayed consistent and shot 41% from the field and 70% from the stripe in the second half.
The Pride padded their lead to 23 with 4:26 to go and didn't take the foot off the gas much as Adamopoulos finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Lexi Windwer and Heather Lewis had 10 points each. Emily Gins had a floor-leading 16 rebounds as the Pride out-rebounded the Lions 44 to 33 in the game.
Springfield scored 27 points off turnovers compared to EC's 11. The Pride made 34 points in the paint to Emerson's six. Springfield's bench contributed 31 to Emerson's 16.
The Lions will travel to Babson Park, Mass. for an 8 p.m. tip on Feb. 5 against the Babson Beavers.
