Wellesley Tops Women's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Tennis Team returned to action Tuesday night as they fell in a tough 9-0 loss to the visiting Wellesley Blue. The Lions are now 0-9 on the year and 0-8 in conference play while Wellesley moves to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the NEWMAC.

Doubles play saw the Blue come out strong as they swept off with 8-0 wins in the number one and number two spots. Jana Winfield and Theresa Nelson teamed up at one but couldn't fend off Carina Chen and Sojung Lee while teammates Sarah Brennan-Athas and Marilia Rosario followed the same fate at the two spot giving Wellesley the 3-0 lead headed into singles.

The Blue were still lethal in singles as well though with Wellesley taking 6-0, 6-0 wins in the one, three, four, five and six spots to clinch the match. Sarah Brennan-Athas battled WC's Dasha Kostikina hard, taking a game in the two spot, but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-1 to finish the match.

The Lions return to action this Friday as they travel to Worcester State for a 3:30 p.m. match in Worcester, Mass.
