CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons College proved too much for the Emerson Women's Tennis Team Tuesday afternoon as they fell 9-0 to the hosting Sharks at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center. The Lions are now 0-10 on the year while Simmons improves to 11-2 overall.
Doubles action saw Jana Winfield and Theresa Nelson fall 8-0 in the number one position while Sarah Brennan-Athas and Eastin Ashby scrapped a set in the second position from Tatiana Yugay and Ashley Pierce, but fell 8-1 as the Sharks swept doubles.
Singles action was a similar story even as the Lions fought hard, but the Sharks came out strong to take 6-0, 6-0 wins in the one, three and four spot. Sarah Brennan-Athas stepped up in the second position to take a couple sets from Katie Crowley, but in the end Crowley prevailed 6-1, 6-1 to finish the sweep.
The Lions return to action tomorrow as they set to host Suffolk at 5:30 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
