Soccer's Phenomenal Team Effort Falls Just Shy To Coast Guard In OT

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – An amazingly played game saw the Emerson Men's Soccer Team just barely edged by the visiting Coast Guard Bears 1-0 in overtime Saturday afternoon. The Lions are now 3-6-3 on the year and 0-4 in conference play while CGA is now 12-1 overall and 3-1 in NEWMAC action.

The first half saw the Lions come out blazing as they outshot CGA five-to-three, but couldn't find a way to convert. The Bears had opportunities though as they forced five corner kicks in the half but Carter Bowers stepped up for two saves as the score remained 0-0 into the break.

Both teams rallied up for the second half as ten fouls and a yellow card was awarded as they battled for control. Bowers was again phenomenal as was Patrick Lowndes who was huge in keeping Coast Guard off the board as well as collecting a save for a CGA shot that was headed into the net deep into the second half. The scoreless stalemate continued through regulation though as the teams headed into OT.

The Bears stepped up in OT to outshoot the Lions, though EC held the line through the first seven minutes, the defense finally broke down in the 98th minute of action when a ball flicked to the left side of the box found Brad McNell who cranked a shot into the bottom right corner of the net to finally end it.

The Lions return to action this Wednesday as they set to host Eastern Nazarene. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
