Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Five different Lions put up goals on the night as the Emerson Men's Soccer Team steamrolled to a 5-3 win over the Emmanuel Saints Wednesday night in Boston. With the win the Lions improve to 2-4-3 on the year while Emmanuel drops to 2-5-2 overall.
The Lions came out on fire in the first half putting up 11 shots while the defense held Emmanuel to only four. The half proved to be a melee of scoring on both sides with the Saints snaking in a goal within the first minute of action off a penalty kick. The Lions struck back in the 13th minute of action though with Ryan Carino setting up Adam Halliday for his first goal of the year to knot it.
The Lions never relinquished the lead again in the game with Evan Eubanks striking next for Emerson with a ball from Alex Van Pelt that he banked into the corner pocket for the 2-1 lead. Emmanuel wasn't going quietly though with a goal off another PK in the 27th minute to tie it again. Emerson had the last say in the half though as Kilian Fischer put up his first goal of the year that Adam Halliday took the assist on to head into the break with the 3-2 lead.
The second half saw the Lions continue to outshoot the Saints eight to seven, but Carter Bowers stepped in to slow the Emmanuel attack with four saves in the half. Emerson struck again in the 71st minute with Matt Zani collecting his second goal of the year off a ball from Derek Thompson.
Thompson would strike gold himself seven minutes later as well with Carino setting up his second assist of the game and third of the year. The Saints attempted to scrap back with a goal in the 90th minute by Stefano Sainato, but the effort wasn't enough as Emerson closed out the 5-3 win.
The Lions return to their home field advantage this Saturday as they set to host WPI in NEWMAC action at 1 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
