Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A gritty physical battle didn't fall in favor of the Lions Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell 2-0 to Lesley in the annual Charles River Cup. With the loss the Lions are now 1-1 on the year while the Lynx improve to 4-0.
The first half saw a more even keel match-up as Lesley put up 10 to Emerson's seven shots in the half with Allie Altman doing work in the net with three saves. The Lynx played tough though as they were called for six fouls as the half rolled to an end still knotted at 0-0.
The second half saw the Lynx start to pull away cracking up 12 shots to Emerson's three. The Emerson defense finally wore down causing a foul in the box lining up Casey Decareau for a penalty kick that she pocketed to make it 1-0. The Lions couldn't seem to keep pace for the duration as LU struck again in the 70th minute of action with a picture perfect cross by Alexis Giusti that set up Veronica Halen to pull the score to its 2-0 final resting place.
The Lions are back on the home pitch this Tuesday as they set to host the Mount Ida Mustangs. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
