Tennis Falls 6-3 To Springfield

Springfield, Mass. - September 21, 2013 - The Springfield College women's tennis team won it's third match of the season on Saturday, beating visiting Emerson, 6-3.

 

Springfield improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in NEWMAC play. Emerson is 0-4 on the season.

 

Melanie Thulin (Manchester Center, Vt.), Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.), Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Alana Grady (Springfield, Mass.) each won their singles matches.

 

Thulin beat Emerson's Jana Winfield (Andover, Mass.), 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 and Shemms took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sophie Trilling.Foster and Grady each swept their match with a 6-0, 6-0 score.

 

Thulin and Shemms won their doubles match, 8-4 while Foster and Grady cruised to an 8-0 win in their doubles match up with Emerson's Madeline Bilis and Tessy Vetter.

 

Springfield will be back in action Tuesday, hosting NEWMAC rival Clark at 4:00 p.m. Emerson will play on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Wheaton.
