Men's Soccer Claims Charles River Cup After Second Half Surge

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A physical game awaited the Emerson Men's Soccer Team Wednesday night as the Lions scrapped back from a 1-0 deficit to score three unanswered goals in the second half to surge past Lesley 3-1 and reclaim the Charles River Cup. With the win the Lions are now 3-2 on the year while Lesley falls to 4-3-1.

The first half saw a chippy first 45 minutes as the Lions pushed the throttle as they put up 11 fouls to Lesley's five to try and control the game. Both teams were solid on defense as it was six to five shots in favor of Lesley. The Lynx broke the stalemate first in the 42nd minute of action with a breakaway by Erik Johansen that he put away into the top right corner that Carter Bowers barely missed as they headed into the break with LU up 1-0.

The Lions surged back for the equalizer in first 15 minutes as Jeremy Leder went up for a ball in the box that he headed into the top right corner to make it 1-1. Less than 90 seconds later Ole Eriksen put a one touch ball into the middle of the box that he turned around to crank into the bottom right of the net to make it 2-1 Emerson.

To finish off the night, Jon Havens took a ball down the left side of the field where he put in perfect cross to Matt Zani who demolished a ball into the middle of the goal to make it 3-1. Carter Bowers stepped up in the half as well with two clutch saves to keep the Lynx scoreless.

The Lions return to action again this Saturday as they set to host MIT to open their inaugural NEWMAC season. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
