Tennis Unable To Hold Off RWU In Home Opener

WATERTOWN, Mass. – A dominant performance in singles by Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser wasn't enough to hold off the Roger Williams Hawks in the Lions' 2013 home opener which saw them fall 7-2. With the loss the Lions are now 0-2 on the season.

In doubles action the Hawks struck first with an 8-0 win in the three spot. Jana Winfield and Natalie Nicholas battled in the two spot, but were unable to hold off Emma Limburg and Adriana Maconochie in an 8-3 loss. Savannah Mosser and Lacey Russell stepped up in the first spot to push Samantha Curran and Hillary Dutton, but fell ultimately in the end 8-6.

Singles action saw RWU rally up to close it with wins in the sixth and fifth spots to seal the match, but the Lions scratched the surface with Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser both kicking out 8-2 wins in the first and second spots. The Hawks closed out the rest of singles with wins in the three and four spot to pull it to 7-2.

The Lions will open up NEWMAC action this weekend as they set to host Mt. Holyoke in Watertown, Mass. at 1 p.m.
