Nashua – Two rookies netted single goals and the Daniel Webster men's soccer won its season opener for the first time in program history with a solid, 3-0 victory over longtime foe Emerson Saturday at Eagle Field.

Freshman Eusebio Marote (Lowell, Mass.) netted his first collegiate strike with an unassisted tally in the first half while fellow newcomer Erick Germano (Lowell, Mass.) and Brad Hosey (Salem, N.H.) added second hand scores and the Eagles (1-0) topped the Lions (0-1) for the third time in the last four seasons.

Marcos Vieira Filho (Hudson, N.H.) and Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Mass.) added assists for the victors.

DWC, which had forged two ties in season openers dating back to 1993, posted an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal and withstood eight Lions corner kicks, while registering six.

Sophomore Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) registered seven saves to record his first career shutout, while Jacob Sigler (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made six saves for Emerson, while Carter Bowers made two stops early before departing.

Marote put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute hopping in a loose ball from 15 yards out, while germane sent home a 20-yard strike off a Filho feed in the 55th. Hosey closed out the scoring in the 71st off an Ottman feed.
