Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – Alicia Daniele put up a fantastic night Thursday as the junior swung .667 with four hits and three runs scored while notching her 10th win in the circle as the Emerson Softball Team split with the USJ Blue Jays. The Lions won game one 6-3 before dropping the second game 6-3 to move to 18-12 overall and 15-3 in GNAC action.
Game one sent Alicia Daniele into the circle where she opened with three shutout innings to give Emerson the opportunity to hit the board. They did just that in the second inning, leading off with a double from Shannon Torosian that Nikki Delaney brought home with the sacrifice squeeze bunt to make it 1-0.
USJ fired back in the fourth to tie it though with Patty Sciglimpaglio doubling to right center before she came home off two wild pitches. EC rallied back in the bottom of the inning though as they added three more runs off three hits with RBIs from Lauren Jacaruso before a couple steals brought in two more.
The Blue Jays scrapped another run in the fifth, but EC had the answer for that as well with Bianca Buono going yard on a 1-2 pitch deep to center field to plate two and make it 6-2. One more USJ was all the Blue Jays could muster in the seventh as Daniele closed out the game 6-3.
Game two gave the ball to Alexandra Magistro, who the Blue Jays got to early with a hit and an error causing trouble as four runs came around in the first inning, with only three of them earned. EC answered the call in the second as Nikki Delaney launched a solo shot to left center. Alicia Daniele doubled next that Brittany Rochford matched for an RBI to make it 4-2.
The Blue Jays weren't ready to quiet down as they kept chirping for two more runs in the third to edge away from the Lions 6-2. Emerson tried to claw back into the game in the sixth inning with an Amanda Horton sac fly RBI. The effort was too little though as the game slipped away with the 6-3 win for USJ.
The Lions return to GNAC action tomorrow as they set to head to Rivier for a doubleheader. Game one is set for 4 p.m. in Nashua, N.H.
