Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – Amanda Horton's .667 average on the day and Bianca Buono's three-run home run helped lead the Emerson Softball Team to a split with the St. Joe's of Maine Monks Sunday. The Lions won game one 5-3 before the Monks took game two 5-4 as EC is now 15-11 overall and 12-2 in GNAC play.
Game one saw Alicia Daniele take to the circle where the Monks bats started off hot as a lead-off walk was brought home off a home run to left center before a double rolled home off an RBI single.
The Lions answered in bottom of the first inning with some fireworks of their own starting off with back-to-back walks to Brittany Rochford and Courtney Fee that set up Bianca Buono who tore an 0-1 pitch to the deepest part of center field to tie it 3-3.
Shannon Torosian dug in next for a single up the middle that Lauren Jacaruso plated with an RBI single of her own while moving Nikki Delaney to third before a throwing error made it 5-3. That's all the offense both team could put together in the first game as Daniele went the distance for the win to move to 8-4 on the season.
Game two sent out Lauren Jacaruso for the start where a scoreless first gave the Lions the opportunity to hit the board first, which they did with a walk and hit by pitch setting up Alexandra Magistro's RBI ground out and Nikki Delaney's RBI single to right. A throwing error made it 3-0 after one complete.
The Monks struck back in the top of the second though putting up two runs off two hits to make It 3-2. The Lions added another run in the bottom of the second as Brittany Rochford went yard for a solo shot to right center to make it 4-2. The Monks struck back in the third with another run to edge closer before SJM put together a rally in the fourth for three hits and two runs to snake the 5-4 lead.
Emerson's offense just couldn't find the firepower through the rest of the game as they weren't able to place a runner in scoring position for the rest of the duration, falling 5-4.
Emerson hits the home turf again Monday as they set to host Emmanuel in GNAC action. Game one is set for 10 a.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
