Box Score 2 NASHUA, N.H. – With five Lions flooring 14 kills or more on the day, the Emerson Men's Volleyball Team split a tri-match Saturday, beating Albertus Magnus 3-1, before falling to host Rivier 3-0. The Lions are now 9-11 on the year and 4-3 in conference action.
In the first match the Lions took on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus which saw Alex Frapech lead the Lions with 14 kills in the match while Brendan McGonigle posted his second-highest career best with 37 assists.
The Lions came out sluggish in the first set, allowing Albertus a 25-17 win before firing back with a gritty 27-25 extra point win in set two to tie it. It went extras again in the third set, this time with EC having to go to 26 in order to top the Falcons and take the lead. With Albertus nipping at their heels the entire time the Lions were finally able to close it out in four with a 25-23 win.
Match two on the day pitted Emerson against the lethal Rivier Raiders where Brendan McGonigle stepped up on offense, flooring eight kills while posting 22 assists.
The Raiders were on a full-on assault though as they swung .333 in the match to EC's .102. Their defense was on point as well with 9.5 blocks in the set as they took off with a 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22 win.
The Lions continue GNAC action this week as they set to travel to Newton to face Lasell. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday.
