Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – After a gritty first half that saw the game knotted at 1-1 the fireworks opened up in the second as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team netted three more goals to collect a 4-3 win over Wentworth Wednesday night in Boston. The win improves the Lions to 2-0 on the year while the Leopards fall to 0-1-1 on the year.
It was a cat fight in the first 45 minutes of play as the Lions and the Leopards kept each other off balance with Emerson only taking the upper hand in shots with nine to WIT's four in the half. The Leopards would strike first though as Elizabeth Somma set up Oliva Moore with a cross that she dropped into the left pocket of the net past a diving Allie Altman.
The play of the game though may have come right before the half closed out as the Lions set up Haley Moser for a corner kick which was cleared by the Leopards, only to find Samantha O'Donovan demolish a booming shot from just inside the half all the way to the top left corner of the net over WIT's Jess Gardner.
Coming out of the break tied 1-1 started up the offensive showcase for both ends as the Lions streaking as they put in three unanswered goals in rapid succession, the first going in only 50 seconds into the half by Christine White.
Freshman Mollie Coyne jumped into the fray after as well, netting a goal of her own in the 54th minute before stepping up to assist Alyssa Giannone who collected a textbook cross to crank one into the back right pocket.
While the Lions started flooding the field with fresh legs, the Leopards clawed back with Valeria Zapata and Ashley Cook joining forces to put in two goals and inch up on the Lions, who were able to hold the line and close out the 4-3 win.
Emerson Women's Soccer will hit the road this Sunday as their season rolls on with the opener of GNAC play as they take on the Suffolk Rams at 12 p.m.
