Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – With Shannon Torosian exploding for a .714 average with five hits and six RBIs on the day while the pitching staff of Kelsey Tuthill, Anexandra Magistro and Alicia Daniele all posting perfect 0.00 ERAs on the day, the Emerson Softball team shone again for their ninth GNAC sweep Sunday as they topped Emmanuel 12-1 (5) and 17-0 (5). Tuthill and Magistro took the wins on the day to push to 13-2 and 12-3 on the year while Emerson improves to 26-7 overall and 20-2 in conference action.
Game one on the day sent Kelsey Tuthill to the circle where the Saints were confused if they had woken up in Vegas as Tuthill was dealing on the day, striking out 13 while allowing but three hits in the outing. The Lions took to the board again in the game scattering five runs on Emmanuel as Shannon Torosian took a bases loaded situation and decided to clean it up with a three RBI double while Bianca Buono brought in another run and an error made it 5-0 EC.
The Saints found their sole run on the day in the second after a passed ball made it 5-1 but Tuthill wasn't having any more of that shutting down Emmanuel for the remainder as the Lions kept bringing the heat on offense with a solo shot from Brittany Rochford in the fourth, an RBI single from Kendal Peiguss in the fifth added another before the Lions just couldn't contain themselves anymore in the sixth as they brought it. Yet another home run, this time for two for Brittany Rochford before Alexandra Magistro followed it up with a solo shot and Kelsey Tuthill with an RBI single to left as EC pulled a 12-1 final in five.
Alexandra Magistro got the nod for game two for the Lions where she allowed but three hits in her three innings of work while the Emerson offense did work on the Saints, dropping a nasty 10 runs on Emmanuel in the second inning as they started the party off right with a solo shot by Magistro herself to spark a deluge of offense for the Lions. While nearly every Lion hit or drove in a run, Shannon Torosian continued her epic day off right with a two RBI single to left that Kendal Peiguess matched with a single to center for two more RBIs as EC marched to a 10-0 lead.
Inning number three saw the Lions bare their fangs again adding six more runs to the board as ribbys found their way to the scorebook for Shannon Torosian, Kelsey Tuthill, Nikki Delaney and Annie Jenkins as the rout continued for the Lions to make it 16-0 after three. An RBI double in the fourth made it a 17-0 where the Lions would close out the win in fashion.
The Lions will continue their campaign this weekend as they travel to Albertus Magnus to take on the Falcons on Friday with a 3 p.m. start for their first game.
