WELLESLEY, Mass.- The Emerson Women's Tennis team kicked off it's 2011 season by visiting non-conference foe and NEWMAC power, Wellesley College. The young Lions battled hard, but the potent Wellesley Blue team came out to post a 9-0 win. All three freshman got into matches including Jana Winfield, Alanna Grady and Natalie Nicholas as they garnered experience against the high caliber Blue.
The Wellesley Blue came out strong in doubles as they swept doubles, though Savannah Mosser and Lacey Russell put forth a tenacious effort in the number one spot battling Wellesley's Marie Watanabe and SoJung Lee, but ultimately fell 8-4 as WC swept the doubles.
Singles was tough for Emerson but they fought hard from beginning to end, though the Blue showed poise from one through six in the match as EC fell in straight sets to close out the match.
On the match, Head Coach John Nestel commented: ""I saw a lot of fight and terrific sportsmanship today which bodes well for our season".
The team returns to action while kicking off conference play next Saturday as they set to head down to Albertus Magnus for a 1 p.m. ET match.
