BEVERLY, Mass. – A valiant effort that fell just shy saw the Emerson Women's Tennis team fall 5-4 Wednesday to their host the Endicott Gulls. The Lions rallied to take off with two of the doubles points, but were just unable to close the door in singles play as EC falls to 2-4 overall with the loss and keep Endicott 8-0 in the year.

In doubles play the Lions looked more than hungry as Savannah Mosser and Lacey Russell pair up in the number one spot to kick out an 8-2 win over Kate Cioffi and Emily Annis, but the clinic was on in the number two spot as Alicia Pellegrin and Natalie Nicholas brought the noise as they went Gull hunting on a perfect 8-0 win over Laura MacLeod and Natalie Egbert. Gina Varamo and Alanna Grady pushed their Gull foes, but were unable to secure the third point as EC rolled into singles up 2-1.

Singles action saw the Lions work to hang tough against the undefeated Gulls who took off to take wins in the five and six spots. Jana Winfield in the four spot battled Emily Annis, but couldn't take the lead, falling 1-6, 3-6.  Alicia Pellegrin also gave her opponent Amy Heacox a solid run for the leafy green stuff as Pellegrin fell 1-6 in the first set, but gave Heacox a workout and a piece of her racket in the second which Heacox was only able to take 4-6.

In the top spot Lacey Russell found herself in a battle with Kate Cioffi who fell to Russell 4-6 in the first set, then snatched a 7-5 win out of Russell's paws in the second to send it to tiebreak. Russell let it ride though as Cioffi was no match in the tie break with Russell running off 10-4. Teammate Savannah Mosser also took the number two spot in the match-up where she tore up Emilie Cloutier 6-3, 6-1.

The Lions will ride again next Tuesday as they head to Wentworth to face off in a 3:30 p.m. match.
