Women's Volleyball Rolls Over St. Joseph's of Maine and Johnson and Wales

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

STANDISH, ME – A fantastic day from Kelsey Scanlon and Alexa Krakowiak helped make the difference Saturday as the Emerson Women's Volleyball team collected two more wins on the season with a 3-1 win over St. Joseph's of Maine and a 3-0 sweep of Johnson and Wales. The Lions are now 10-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action.

The first match of the day pitted the Lions against the host squad, the Monks of St. Joseph's of Maine where EC weren't joking around from the first serve on as they swung an unstoppable .375 in the first set that they shook off 13 tie scores and five lead changes in to take a 25-21 win. They hit repeat on the playlist for the second set as well with 16 kills for a team .297 percentage and yet again holding off 13 tie scores and six lead changes to take a 25-20 win.

Set three wasn't to be though as the Monks defense seemed to shift the Lions off-beat for a minute as EC had 11 unforced errors to give the Monks just enough space to shuffle by with a 25-17 win. The Emerson defense, led with Alexa Krakowiak's seven blocks in the match made the difference though as the Lions re-focused for the fourth set that saw Jessica Drumright's .333 attack percentage help finish the Monks with EC finishing it with a 25-13 win.

In the second match of the day for the Lions, they faced off against the Johnson and Wales Wildcats where Madeleine Breeland brought the noise with six kills to lead the Lions who were so brutal in their attack in the first set it may have been illegal in all 50 states and Mexico as they hit an unreal .520 in the set to take a 25-9 win.

The Lions pumped the breaks a bit in the second set, but not immensely as the Wildcats clawed back into the match, outhitting EC .159 to .136, but the Lion D made the difference with two blocks by Kat Rice and Jessica Drumright to give Emerson the 25-18 lead. Emerson wasn't in the mood to draw out the inevitable any longer though as they only needed three to finish the match and the day as Kelsey Scanlon put the finishing touches on her best match of the season finishing with 10 kills and a .444 attack percentage to lead EC to a 25-16 final and fourth sweep of the year.

The Lions hit the court again on Tuesday as they travel to Roger Williams for a 7 p.m. match in Bristol, RI.
