Foehl's Two Goals Lift Lions Past Rivier

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Staving off a tough Rivier Raiders offensive attack the Emerson Women's Soccer team led by senior Meghan Foehl's two goals on the day and Allie Altman's stellar seven saves collected a 2-0 win over RIvier to move to 2-3 on the year and 2-1 in the GNAC.

The first half saw both teams deadlock in shots in the half with both teams firing off four shots apiece. The Lions made the most of theirs though as Meghan Foehl's fury couldn't be contained as she wasted no time in putting one in the back of the net as she took a textbook pass from Carmen Trobaugh which she deposited in the lower left corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead.

Foehl wasn't satisfied with the goal though as she stepped up in the 19th minute of play to take off towards the net and blast a solo shot into the upper right corner over Rivier's Christine Surber to EC ripped off to a 2-0 lead headed into the break.

The lead would be all that the Lions would need as Rivier outshot EC in the second half 7-to-2 but Allie Altman showed her poise in the posts, notching four save and collecting the second shutout of her career.

Next up the Lions will host St. Joseph's (Me.)  this Wednesday as GNAC action continues. The match starts at 5:30 pm in Boston at Rotch Field.
