BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Tennis team returned to the courts Wednesday afternoon in their second match of the season which saw them pitted against a tough Babson opponent at Farwell Courts in Babson Park. The Lions Savannah Mosser looked stellar in the number two singles spot as she kicked out a nearly perfect 6-1, 6-0 win in the 8-1 loss for EC. On the year the Lions are now 0-2 on the season headed into conference play this weekend.
In doubles action, Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser teamed up to give Babson's Alex Freeman and Sarah Whitaker a ferocious match in the number one spot where the Lions were just able to hold on falling 8-5. Their teammates, Alicia Pellegrin and Natalie Nicholas dropped a tough 8-2 decision while Alanna Grady and Gina Varamo scrapped to an 8-3 loss to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead headed into singles.
Going solo the Lions pushed the Beavers to the brink on more than a few occasions where Lacey Russell took to the number one spot only to leave everything on the court with an intense 7-6(7-1) loss in the first set and 6-2 loss in the second. Natalie Nicholas as well pushed her Babson opponent in set one, but couldn't pull off the win as she fell 6-4. The Beavers look dominant in the rest of the outing with the three, five and six spots also falling in straight sets to leave EC's Savannah Mosser the sole Lion victor on the day.
The Lions will set to start up some feisty GNAC action this weekend as they travel to Mount Ida this Saturday, September 17 for a high noon match against the Gators.
