Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – With Megan Kaplon swinging a vicious .500 for 13 kills on the night while Kelsey Scanlon and Madeleine Breeland posted 11 kills apiece the Emerson Women's Volleyball team proved to be unstoppable still as they collected their 23rd win of the season in three sets over Johnson and Wales to advance to the GNAC Semi-Finals. The Lions won 25-15, 25-18 and 25-13 to move to 23-7 on the year and 1-0 in the postseason while JWU finishes 2011 with a 10-25 record.
Set one saw the Lions rocket out to a 7-1 lead before JWU was forced to take a timeout to try and recoup. The ploy didn't work though as the Lions kept pounding away in the set for a .382 team attack percentage while Kaplon nearly jumped out of the gym with an ungodly .800 attack percentage for eight kills to lead EC to a 25-15 win.
Set two saw the Wildcats come out to claw a bit at Emerson, but the Lions were confident in each other as Katie Bailey spread the offense more in the set with Madeleine Breeland and Kelsey Scanlon both putting down five and four kills respectively. The Lions gave the 100+ fans that ventured down to enjoy the fine scenery and air of Brown-Plofker Gym something to cheer about through the set as they battled off a tie score and lead change to rock out a 25-18 win.
Three is just where EC likes to be though as they kicked it up a notch as they just punished the ball for a .429 attack percentage with Bailey again showcasing the talents for the Emerson faithful with three different Lions putting up four kills each while Madeleine Breeland and Kat Rice paired up for a block as well to finish off the Wildcats 25-13.
The win puts the Lions into the GNAC Semi-Final game which is set to be played Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Boston at Brown-Plofker Gym against the winner of the Simmons vs. Norwich match-up.
