BOSTON, Mass. – A dominate doubles performance and a stellar singles rout made the difference Sunday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Tennis team collected another win Sunday afternoon as they Lions tackled the Saints in a 6-3 win to move to 5-4 overall on the year and 5-1 in GNAC play while Emmanuel drops to 8-2 and 3-2 in conference play.
Doubles saw the Lions rock the cashbah in doubles as Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser brought the noise Taylor Day and Alex Hadlock with a straight nasty 8-0 win to start the party. Alicia Pellegrin and Natalie Nicholas saw a solid match against Amanda Woznicki and Jenny Konecnik but snaked off with an 8-4 win to take a 2-1 win headed into singles.
The Lions brought it to singles as well with number one and two, Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser crushing it in straight sweeps with comparable 6-0, 6-2 wins to make it a quick 4-1 lead. The Saints rallied back though as they pulled out wins in the fifth and sixth spots to make it 4-3.
Alicia Pellegrin saw a battle as she faced a formidable foe in Amanda Woznicki but the night went to the Lion who battled off after a 6-0 win but fell 3-6 until Pellegrin gave it to the Saint in the final set with a 6-1 final. Closing it out was Natalie Nicholas who took the first set from Jenna Reid though the Saint had some luck behind her to take set two before a gritty tiebreak where the Lion showed her colors with an 11-9 win.
Next up the Lions are in action tomorrow against Suffolk for a high-noon showdown.
