Clark Slips Past Women's Lacrosse in OT

Cacciapaglia caps three goal Cougars rally with winner 1:24 into overtime

BOSTON, Mass. (April 11, 2026) – Clark University scored twice in the final 2:46 of the fourth quarter to force overtime and then senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia scored a free-position goal 1:24 into overtime to lift the Cougars to a 14-13 triumph over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse matchup on Senior Night at Rotch Field.

Cacciapaglia finished with four goals, six draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover for Clark, while freshman Jasmine Peters paced the Cougars attack with six points, netting five goals, including the tying marker to force overtime with 19-seconds to play, with an assist, seven draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Freshman Ella Forsman posted 12 saves in the Clark goal, collecting four ground balls. Senior Ellie Spotts finished with 14 saves over 51-minutes in the Emerson goal, while classmate Lindsey Wettstein added three stops in a quarter of play.

Junior Ava DelliCompagni netted a game-high six goals, including the 100th of her career, to lead the Emerson attack, converting 4-of-5 free-position attempts with three draw controls and three ground balls. Sophomore Laina Gustafson added four goals, two draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls for the Lions, while classmate Laura Lovell totaled two goals and two assists with five ground balls, a caused turnover and draw control.

Prior to the game, Emerson took a moment to recognize its seven seniors and their families: Spotts, Wettstein, Vani Hanamarian, Claire De Lacoste, Sydney O'Hara, Holland Rutter and Samantha Bowen.

Back-to-back woman up goals from DelliCompagni gave Emerson its second two goal lead (13-11) of a contest that featured 11 ties and six lead changes with 6:20 to play in regulation. Sophomore Sydney McMonagle sparked Clark's final and winning comeback with her second of the game with 2:46 to play and then Peters potted the Cougars fifth equalizing goal of the night with 19-seconds remaining to force the extra period.

Peters then collected the opening draw of the extra session to give Clark the only possession it would need. After a pair of shots off the mark, Caccapaglia was awarded a free-position shot and put the winning goal away just 1:24 into overtime.

DelliCompagni also aided in giving Emerson its first two goal lead (8-6) with two-straight goals in the third quarter, including her 100th career marker 2:37 into the frame, as the Lions used a three-goal run over the first ten minutes to reclaim the lead after Clark held a 6-5 halftime edge. Caccapaglia and sophomore Paige Kemish answered with goals 1:23 apart to restore the lead for Clark and then Gustafson sent the game into the final quarter deadlocked at nine with her fourth of the game with 34-seconds on the clock.
