Beavers rally for extra innings win in game one, hold off Lions in game two

BOSTON, Mass. (April 11, 2026) – Babson College swept a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball doubleheader at Rotch Field this afternoon. The Beavers rallied for an 11-10 win in nine innings in game one, before holding off Emerson College for a 9-5 win in game two.

Game 1: Babson 11, Emerson 10 (9-innings)

Babson erased an early four run deficit to take the opening game in an extra innings contest that featured a combined 34 hits between the two teams.

Junior Lexi Sealey batted 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored, driving in a pair in the top of the ninth to put Babson in front for good. Sophomore Maddy DeLong hit 3-for-5 with three runs scored for the Beavers, while junior Charlotte Raymond finished 3-for-6 with a double, RBI and run scored. Sophomore Samantha Skivo rounded out the Beavers with three hits by going 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Freshman Anna Topel collected the win (4-4) in the circle for Babson, yielding just two earned runs out of ten, on 15 hits with six strikeouts and no walks in the complete game effort.

Sophomore Avi Kuperman led the Emerson lineup by going 3-for-5 with a stolen base, three RBI and three runs scored, while classmate Kari Sorensen was also 3-for-5 with a double and RBI. First year Malena Cardinale batted 2-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Lions. Junior Cal Sheehan took the loss (3-8) in the circle, allowing seven earned runs out of 11, on 19 hits and four walks while striking out 13 in the complete game.

Emerson staked out a four-run lead in the bottom of the first keyed by an RBI single up the middle from Kuperman. Babson pulled within a run (4-3) in the fourth as Skivo led off with a single up the middle and later scored when junior Emily Walsh (Flemington, New Jersey/Hunterdon Central Regional) reached on a fielder's choice before Sealy delivered an RBI single.

Emerson restored a three-run lead (6-3) in the fifth, but Babson rallied with a four run sixth behind a two-run single from sophomore Belle DiCampello and RBI single from junior Devin McCall.

Kuperman singled to right center to knot the score at 7-7 in the sixth and eventually send the game to extras. Both teams scored a pair in the eighth to extend the game even further and then Sealey provided what proved to be the deciding runs with her two-run single in the ninth. Emerson threatened to extend the game even further in the home half as Cardinale drove in Sheehan with a single to center, but Babson would get the final out.

Charlotte Raymond went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored to lead Babson in the nightcap. Freshman Izzy Burgess doubled and drove in three for the Beavers, while Emily Walsh homered and scored two runs to finish 2-for-4 at the plate.

Junior Katie Vlacich earned the win in the circle (2-7) for Babson, allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits with seven strikeouts and a walk in the complete game. Emerson junior Kate Regan took the loss (0-7) surrendering six earned runs on nine hits and three walks over four innings.

Avi Kuperman went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two for Emerson with a double and two runs scored, while first year Valentina Luciano batted 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Junior Riley Caiazza finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Babson broke a 1-1 tie with a four run third after loading the bases after the leadoff batter was retired. After Devin McCall delivered an RBI single through the right side, Burgess cleared the bases with a three run double to center. The Beavers figured to have sealed the win with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh, but Emerson brought the tying run to the plate in the home half. Luciano led off with a double and then three-straight one out singles by first year Aislinn McCoy, Caiazza and Kuperman loaded the bases with Caiazza driving in Luciano with her hit to left. Vlacich worked out of the jam by retiring the next two batters to complete the sweep.
