Springfield Finishes Sweep at Softball

Pride rallies for 3-2 extra innings win in game two after securing 10-0 game one win in five

BOSTON, Mass. (April 18, 2026) – Springfield College rallied for a 3-2 extra innings win in game two to finish off a doubleheader sweep of Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball action at Lester Rotch Field this afternoon. The Pride opened the day with a 10-0 victory in five innings in game one.

Game 2: Springfield 3, Emerson 2 (8-innings)

First year Madi Testo finished 2-for-3 and drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning for Springfield, while senior Kate Katsetos batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Pride. Sophomore righthander Julia Rimshnick earned the complete game win (7-5) in the circle for the Pride, yielding two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk over the eight innings in the circle.

Junior Riley Caiazza batted 1-for-3 with a stolen base and RBI for Emerson, while first year Aislinn McCoy finished 1-for-4 with a steal and run scored. Junior Cal Sheehan took the loss (3-10) in relief for the Lions, allowing two runs, just one earned, on three hits, with two strikeouts and three walks over 3.2 innings. Classmate Kate Regan yielded one unearned run on four hits over the first 4.1 innings.

Springfield opened the scoring in the second when Katsetos singled through the right side and later scored on a sacrifice fly to left by sophomore Haley Ball after she should have been erased at second on a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning. Emerson grabbed its first lead of the day in the third when McCoy stole home on a delayed double steal with Caiazza after the latter had delivered an RBI single to right.

Springfield evened the score after the first two batters were retired in the sixth. Katsetos and Testo singled before loading the bases with a walk and then Ball drove in her second run of the game by working a free pass. After Testo drove in the go-ahead run for Springfield with her sacrifice foul out to score the courtesy runner in the top of the eighth, Emerson was unable to push its placed runner across. First year Malena Cardinale sacrificed the potential tying run to third, but Rimshnick struck out the next two batters to seal the win.

Game 1: Springfield 10, Emerson 0 (5-innings)

Sophomore Reilly Hunter drove in three runs and senior lefthander Amelia DeRosa scattered three hits over five shutout innings to earn the win (13-4) in the circle for Springfield in game one.

Hunter doubled in three at bats with the three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Springfield lineup, while DeRosa struck out four and walked just one in the shutout effort. Senior Carissa Pecchia added a double and drove in two for Springfield while Madi Testo hit 2-for-3 with a stolen base, RBI and run scored and Haley Ball went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and run scored.

Aislinn McCoy singled in her lone official at bat for Emerson in game one with a stolen base, while first year Valentina Luciano was 1-for-2 for the Lions. Cal Sheehan took the loss (3-9), surrendering seven earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks in three-plus innings in the circle.

Springfield grabbed the lead with the only run DeRosa would need in the top of the first when Hunter drew a lead off walk, stole second with one out and later scored on a wild pitch with two away. The Pride broke the game open with a nine-run fourth that would prove to end the game after five. Hunter provided a bases clearing three-run double and Pecchia added a two-run double to highlight the decisive frame.
