BOSTON, Mass. (March 26, 2026) – Wentworth Institute of Technology, ranked No. 15 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III coaches poll, notched a 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-9) triumph over Emerson College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's volleyball match at Tansey Gymnasium tonight.
Wentworth rolled out 19 different players in the win, with 11 collecting at least one kill, two setters with double-digit assists and racking up 15 service aces and 15 blocks. Senior right-side Gabe Tucker posted a team-high nine kills for the Leopards with just two errors for a .318 hitting percentage, three aces, two digs and five block assists in scoring a team-best 14.5 points. Freshman right side William Biggs contributed eight kills (.636), while sophomore Temmy Argynbay dished out a team-best 21 assists with four digs and two blocks.
First year Ryan Chen distributed 30 assists to five different hitters, with two aces. Junior Riley Goldman paced the Lions hitters with a match-high ten kills and three digs, while first year Cade Ott contributed seven kills, two aces, nine digs and a solo block.
Wentworth was never trailed or tied until Emerson took a third set that included four ties and one lead change. The Leopards won the opening set with the benefit of just eight kills, taking advantage of ten Emerson hitting errors, four service errors and three reception errors to make up the difference. Tucker totaled four kills on ten total attacks in the opening set, while the Leopards scored the first four points of the match with a kill and three Emerson attack errors on their way to a 19-8 margin.
Back-to-back kills by freshman Caleb Harrison helped Wentworth to a 3-0 lead on its way to a 12-4 margin to take control of the second set. Seven different players recorded kills for the Leopards in the frame as Harrison finished with three on as many total attacks.
Emerson finished the second set strong, closing to within eight (24-16), before heading to the third set. The Lions grabbed an early 7-4 edge after an Ott block and maintained that margin until a Harrison block leveled the set at 16-16. Sophomore Mario Cielo-Salinas pushed Emerson back in front and would not trail in the set again, sealing set point with an Orr ace.
Goldman provided the opening point in the fourth set for Emerson with a kill, but Wentworth followed with a 15-1 run to take control and close out the match. The Leopards scored nine-straight points on junior Conner Foxwell's serve, including four aces. The Leopards served up seven aces in all during the set to go with a .500 team hitting percentage.
Emerson (4-11, 1-4 GNAC) tomorrow night when it hosts Wheaton College for a makeup of a March 5 postponement at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Wentworth (17-7, 6-1 GNAC) hosts No. 3-ranked Springfield College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
