BOSTON, Mass. (March 27, 2026) – Wheaton College posted a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21) triumph over Emerson College in a non-conference men's volleyball matchup at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium tonight.
Sophomore Jack Kenyon paced the Wheaton attack with a match-high 15 kills and just one error for a .583 hitting percentage with six digs and two block assists. First year Jacob Hoy dished out 24 assists with five blocks, five digs and a service ace, while sophomore Jimmy Ciummo registered five blocks, three solo, with an ace and two kills.
Sophomore Mario Cielo-Salinas posted a team-high eight kills for Emerson with two assists, four digs and a block, while junior Riley Goldman tallied seven kills, four aces and a dig. First year Ryan Chen dished out 17 assists with two kills, an ace and four digs for the Lions.
Wheaton did not trail in taking the opening set with four blocks and a .625 team hitting percentage led by seven kills on eight attacks (.875) for Kenyon. The Lyons took control of the set with a 12-5 run after Emerson had forced the second tie of the set with a Cielo-Salinas kill. Kenyon recorded two kills during the run, while first year Landon Hanscom was in on consecutive blocks.
Wheaton added six blocks and hit .300 to win a second set that included ten ties and five lead changes. The Lyons gained some separation on the serve of first year R. Bennett Chiapetta keyed by back-to-back kills from first year Jordan Rodriguez. Emerson leveled the set at 19-19 with five-straight points on Goldman's serve, including two aces, before the Lyons sealed the set with a 6-1 run, including two aces by Rodriguez.
Wheaton appeared in control of the third set, staking out a 16-5 lead after six-straight points on sophomore Connor Lloyd's serve, with Hanscom recording a pair of kills. Emerson roared back with a 16-5 run, led by five-straight points on Chen's serve, with Goldman contributing a kill and an ace, to knot the score at 21-21. Wheaton came out of a timeout and closed out the set with the final four points, including back-to-back Kenyon kills to seal the match.
Emerson (4-12, 1-4 GNAC) continues its three game homestand to cap the regular season on Tuesday when it hosts Elms College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on Boylston Street at 7 p.m. Wheaton (10-13) hosts Nichols College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
