Wellesley Slips Past Women's Lacrosse

Simic plays role in ten Blue goals with seven goals, three assists

WELLESLEY, Mass. (March 21, 2026) – First year Milica Simic had a hand in ten Wellesley College goals as the Blue notched its first Conference win in two years with a 15-12 decision over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse matchup at Butler Stadium this afternoon.

Simic scored a game-high seven goals and dished out three assists to go with five draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls for Wellesley. Sophomore Charlotte Petersen-Kopman added three goals and an assist for the Blue, while junior Amelia Dupont scored three goals with four draws, two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

First year Scarlett McArthur posted six saves in 48 minutes in the Wellesley goal in relief of senior Anna Blake Patrick who made three stops over the first 12 minutes. Senior Ellie Spotts registered ten stops in the Emerson goal, collecting two ground balls.

Junior Ava DelliCompagni played a role in seven of Emerson's 12 goals, scoring five and assisting on two others, while collecting nine draw controls and a ground ball with a caused turnover. Sophomore Laina Gustafson added three goals and an assist with six draws, two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while sophomore Adele Eaton scored a pair for the Lions. Sophomore Laura Lovell chipped in with a goal and two assists, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

DelliCompagni helped spot Emerson a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, scoring twice in the opening five minutes and then assisting on Eaton's first career goal with 2:24 remaining in the frame. Sophomore Amelia Woodard capped the first quarter scoring, assisted by Simic, to pull Wellesley back within two (4-2) and then first year Eliza Wysong pulled the Blue back within a goal with her first of two second quarter goals as the hosts scored the final four goals of the half to take a two goal lead (8-6) into the intermission after Simic's second of the day with 5:15 on the clock.

Simic opened the second half scoring and went on to net five of her seven goals in the second half to help Wellesley seal the win. She scored two-straight goals and assisted on a third during a spurt that pushed the Blue lead to five (13-8) late in the third quarter.

Wellesley stretched the lead to six (15-9) after Simic and Peterson-Kopman opened the fourth quarter scoring. Gustafson sparked a comeback from Emerson with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to pull the Lions back withing four with ten minutes still to play. DelliCompagni drew Emerson within three a minute later but would get no closer.
